Class actions are an important and effective way to protect consumers. Some violations of consumer protection laws impact many consumers. Under appropriate circumstances, Consumer Law Group advances our clients' claims in class action lawsuits. We have been appointed as lead counsel in more than twenty certified class actions in state and federal court in Connecticut. The matters that have handled include:

Bally Total Fitness - Class action against the two subsidiaries operating Bally Total Fitness health clubs in Connecticut. The suit alleged that the defendants' standard form of contract violated the Connecticut Health Club Act. The parties' settlement was approved by the Court. Consumer Law Group attorney Daniel S. Blinn was one of several attorneys for the class in a similar suit that was recently certified by the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania on behalf of certain Pennsylvania members of Bally Total Fitness.

Auto Finance Cases - We have handled more than one dozen class actions against auto finance companies for violations of Connecticut's repossession laws. The law suits have assisted consumers in avoiding tens of millions of dollars in post-repossession deficiency claims and has recovered millions of dollars for Connecticut consumers.

Supermarket Sales Tax Cases - We have brought and settled class actions against several supermarket chains who were charging sale tax on items that were not subject to Connecticut's sales and use tax. These settlements resulted in refunds to consumers and have changed the business practices of the stores that were involved.

Airport Parking Cases - We brought class actions against two valet parking services operating outside of Bradley International Airport for charging an undisclosed surcharge to their coupon prices. The settlement of this case resulted in a lowering of the coupon prices by the the companies that were involved and changed the way that the surcharges were disclosed to customers.

Fair Debt Collection Practices - We have brought several class actions against debt collectors for engaging in improper debt collection activity.

Auto Dealer Fraud - We have brought several class actions against auto dealerships and finance companies for engaging in various unfair business practices and for violating credit dislosure laws.
