Consumer Law Group is a private law firm with a main office in Rocky Hill, CT and a satellite office in Shelton, CT.As our name implies, we represent consumers who have been harmed by the unfair, illegal, or deceptive acts and practices of businesses. In short, we help consumers who are having trouble with banks, finance companies, car dealerships, creditors, debt collectors, credit bureaus, retailers, and other businesses.
For the most part, we are able to provide representation at little or no cost to our clients. The vast majority of our fees are paid by the businesses that we sue.For many types of cases, our clients pay no fees at all.The natural question to ask is:“How can a private law firm represent me, a consumer, at little or no cost to me?” To put it simply, Congress and the Connecticut legislature (and the legislatures of most states) recognize that violations of consumer protection law occur with such frequency that the marketplace cannot be adequately policed by government agencies. For this reason, most consumer protection laws encourage you, the consumer, to invoke your rights and seek legal remedies. Typically, these laws provide consumers with the right to sue businesses that violate consumer protection laws.In many instances, consumers can recover nominal or punitive damages plus attorney’s fees. The goal of these statutes is to encourage consumers to enforce the laws by bringing private actions and to encourage attorneys to assist consumers in these lawsuits.Unfortunately, many businesses continue to violate consumer protection laws because not enough consumers bring these suits. We believe that far too many businesses take advantage of consumers because they believe they can get away with it.It is the mission of the Consumer Law Group to encourage a more open and honest business environment for consumers and to make businesses who do not comply with the law pay for their misconduct.
