A recent article in Consumer Reports states that Certified Pre-Owned cars can cost hundreds or even thousands dollars more than other comparable vehicles.
In our opinion, the vehicles are not worth the extra money. Frequently, dealerships do not really perform the promised inspection, and, in some cases, they will certify cars even though they were previously wrecked.
Although Certified Pre-Owned cars do usually come with a warranty, the cost is rolled into the vehicle’s price.
Our advice: Do not rely upon the dealership to inspect a used car – pay an outside, independent mechanic to check out a used car before buying. While service contracts can cover some problems that might arise, this is one instance where an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!
